The Best Savannah Candy and Dessert Joints
Got a sweet tooth? Savannah candy and dessert joints are good and plentiful. Take Leopold's Ice Cream, on Broughton Street, as a sweet example. Since 1919, Leopold's has scooped up the frosty, creamy goodness for generations of Savannahians. It was a favorite hang out of Johnny Mercer, who grew up one block from the original store at the corner of Gwinnett and Habersham. The current owner is also a movie producer with films like 'Mission: Impossible III' and 'The General's Daughter' to his credit. It's no surprise that the shop is loaded with movie memorabilia. For a quainter ice cream experience, wander into Ice Cream, Etcetera at 19 Jefferson Street...City Market.

This is Peyton's favorite because they serve the red, yellow and blue Superman flavor. (I think it's just vanilla with primary food coloring and it makes a super-sized mess in the summer but who cares. It's fun!)For homemade taffy, pralines, fudge and the like, you'll want to check out two stores in particular, Savannah's Candy Kitchen at City Market and River Street Sweets on, you guessed it, River Street. It's like Santa's elves have gone beserk! Conveyor belts plop out fresh nuggets of chewy taffy all day long and there's always someone on duty whipping up candy apples, pralines and warm, gooey fudge.

Willy Wonka, eat your heart out!Longing for Europe? Drop by Goose Feathers just off of Ellis Square and right across the street from
Kitchens On The Square.
This combination cafe/bakery turns out scores of warm Belgian waffles, chocolate croissants, sticky buns and muffins all day long and they are all so incredibly dee-lish. It's located at 39 Barnard Street.
